Arrest of Suspected ISIS Operatives

Officials stated that two individuals, identified as Adnan, were taken into custody following coordinated operations in Bhopal and Delhi. One of them is a resident of Sadiq Nagar in Delhi and the other is from Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Kushwaha stated at a press conference, “These arrests have averted a potential terrorist attack in Delhi.” He further added, “In addition to a mall and a park in South Delhi, the terrorists were planning to attack other crowded places.”

Planned Attack for Diwali

According to investigators, these members were aiming to kill as many people as possible by targeting crowded areas during Diwali. Police also recovered photographs of possible hideouts in Delhi and a video of the accused pledging allegiance to ISIS.

Photographs of the locations where they were to obtain components for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were also seized, along with a homemade timing device—a clock intended to be used as a temporary timer for the explosives.

These arrests highlight how Delhi Police foiled Diwali terrorist attack, preventing the suspects from executing their deadly plans during the holiday season and ensuring the safety of crowded areas in Delhi.”

The Delhi suspect was first arrested in Sadiq Nagar on October 16. Based on clues obtained during his interrogation, another suspect, Adnan, was later arrested in Bhopal.

Officials have stated that Adnan, a Bhopal resident, has previously been under investigation after allegedly threatening an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) official on social media regarding the survey of the Gyanvapi Mosque.

Teams led by ACP Lalit Mohan Negi and Additional Commissioner Pramod Kushwaha carried out the operation based on specific intelligence, a senior official told PTI.

 Police Statement and Investigation Updates

The suspects’ links to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), which has previously been accused of supporting ISIS-linked networks, are currently being investigated. According to a police source, “We are investigating the broader network and their possible international connections.”

According to the Special Cell, the two were radicalized online and may have benefited from logistical support from foreign handlers. Agencies are also investigating whether they tried to recruit others in Bhopal or Delhi.

According to police, these arrests averted a deadly terrorist attack during the holiday season. Preliminary information suggests they were preparing for a major attack. “They were close to completing their plans,” an official said.

The two suspects are still being interrogated, and detectives are working to identify other potential members of the network.
